And We're Back

I just got back from an exciting weekend spent in Harrisburg PA visiting some friends of mine that recently moved down there.   It's a nice town if I do say so myself, and they live in a very nice little apartment complex that seems to have a lot of good people.   Then I was off to Baltimore for a day to apparently go to a John Mayer concert.   No, it wasn't my idea at all.

It ended up raining intensely hard at the concert, and if I had to pick the most exciting moment I would say that it was the part where there was a huge and bright flash of lightning, followed by an incredible explosion of thunder that scared the crap out of everyone out on the lawn.   Other than that, I determined that John Mayer is Dave Matthews in disguise.

So anyway, it looks like I missed some stuff while I was away, mainly this new Wii Remote add on that will allegedly give the Wii Remote better feedback to the Wii, enabling 1:1 motion controls.   Nintendo released a nifty press release to explain it in their perfect terms.

Nintendo’s upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

With Nintendo's press conference for the start of E3 coming up in about an hour, I can only imagine what the focus of the show will be.   A long time ago, Miyamoto had an interview in which he was asked about 1:1 motion controls for the next Zelda game.   He simply responded "if that's what people want, then we'll do it!"   I'm paraphrasing that from my memory, so don't quote me.

Anyway, a perfect E3 would be for them to unveil some amazing (maybe Zelda) game to use this new 1:1 movement ability.   Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, and Punch-Out would also be really nice.

In other news, upon arrival back home I turned on my computer and somehow my Windows install was completely screwed up.   This seems to happen often whenever I go away on a trip.   My computer was off the entire weekend, so I don't really know what could've happened.   Long story short, my svchost.exe was somehow completely gone, it just didn't exist anymore.   It's similar to what happened when AVG thought svchost was a virus and locked it away, but this time AVG was nowhere found on my PC.

What ended up happening was my windows install was able to delete C:\Windows, and reinstall C:\Windows.   So my C: drive partition is still in tact, but I sort of have a bunch of files in Program Files that aren't really installed so they're all just floating in space.   It will do for now, because now I have a reason to look for some new computer hardware.   I'm thinking its time for a nice Quad Core machine.
