Back Home

I just got back from my long journey to San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference 2009.   I didn't forget about my precious blog, but I just haven't had time to update it.   I've been working on a massive write up detailing the trip, and I'm just making sure that I didn't forget anything.   In the mean time, you can check out some photos!

Look at how awesome I look.   Anyway, the next thing I post will be my long summary of the events that took place over the past 10 days or so.

I'll Update This Soon

Right now I barely have a second to even sit down and open my laptop.   When I get that moment, I will write more stuff in here.

In San Francisco

Today was a good day.   I went to sleep at about 5am last night due to last minute checking over everything I could possibly imagine forgetting.   I got up at 9:30am to leave for the airport at 10:30, got to the airport at 11:30, and finally took off to San Francisco at 1:00.

I thought my flight was going to be a direct flight to San Francisco, but it turns out it had to stop once in Las Vegas, and let me say that airport sucks.      The flight was really smooth starting out from Albany, but going into Las Vegas was a little unsettling.   They had some pretty strong winds going on the entire way down, and that shook me up a little bit.

After landing I got to stay on the same plane.   We then had to wait for the co-pilot to show up because apparently she was held up in the landing traffic because air traffic control was re-routing all the planes because of the winds.   When she finally arrived we took off at about 4:30pm pacific time.   The take off this time wasn't as smooth as Albany and it had some pretty big bumps, but I guess I figure if nobody else around me is worried about them I guess I don't have to be.

The view out my window for this part of the flight was absolutely incredible.   I haven't been out to the west coast since last year's GDC, and last time I didn't have a window seat, but since I stayed on the plane during boarding I had first picks of seats.   Being up so high over the earth just gives you a completely different perspective on almost everything, and seeing the vast desert landscape was just awesome.

About an hour and a half later the plane touched down in San Francisco for a pretty smooth landing.   At this point I had to figure out where to get my baggage and find the BART.   I tried to find some confused looking people to stick with, and luckily I bumped into two kind folks that were heading in the same direction as me, and we took the BART all the way to Powell street.

At the Bart station I met up with Derek Yu and Tommy Refenes, two guys I haven't seen since last year's GDC.   We somehow found this sort of sketchy looking fried chicken place to eat, but it turned out to be pretty good food.   Some homeless guy walked right in and asked us for some food, and it felt like we were in some sort of Grand Theft Auto city with random NPCs walking up to us and saying canned lines.

Adam Saltsman then arrived at 9:30pm and found his way to the hotel as Derek, Tommy and I waited in the lobby.   After he got all of us checked in, we ran into Cactus, Petri, and Daniel right outside who were going to meet Derek.   Adam was looking for a place to eat, so Tommy and I accompanied him.

After that, we found our way back to the hotel where none other than Mark Johns had arrived.   We got situated in our hotel room and hung out for a few hours.   Good times were had by all.

This is only the first night and I'm already remembering how awesome it is to be out here with such super amazing people.   I wish it didn't have to end in only 8 days!

To San Francisco!

Hopefully this is where I begin a long string of posts about my journey ahead.   Things have been pretty quiet on the ole blog lately, but I've been keeping busy.   Last week I took a trip down to Baltimore to visit a friend of mine:   one Brandon McCartin.   We started work on a rather sweet game that I wish I could show off, but it's far from ready right now.   It will be quite awesome when it's finally finished though.

Game Developers Conference 2009 is right ahead, and it starts Monday.   Such a mixture of emotions right now!   Excitement, anxiousness, nervousness... but I think most of that is coming from the absolute dread I have of flying in airplanes.   I used to like flying, but I think lately I've been more nervous than excited about the aspect of being 30,000 feet up in the air.

Snapshot will be on display in the IGF pavilion from Wednesday to Friday, so if by some chance you're going to be at GDC2009 please come by and say hello.   It's going to be a great week of seeing some of the most awesome people I know.   My first adventure may very well be on Friday night in San Francisco when hopefully I'll meet back up with Derek and Cactus, two good buddies I met last year.

I'll also attempt to take a lot of pictures, but no promises.   I take off tomorrow morning.   It's going to be a pretty intense trip!
Hey man! Imagine seeing you here. I got linked to here from gamertonight.net, didn't know you had a hand in that...
